Hi. I'm alive.

I met a man and we're getting maaaaarrried!!!

Kidding.

I'm not getting married.
I haven't met any men.
I just happen to be watching Father of the Bride.

I am signing a lease for an apartment on Thursday. That's like a 12-month marriage, right?

The good things: location, location, location. price, price, price. utilities are included [except electricity]. and the building's safe [you're welcome, mom and dad]. hardwood floors. windows. character.

The bad things: teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy. tiny kitchen. tiny. small. dainty.

OK, here's the floorplan:

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures.

Micro-kitchen. Yeah, that has 20 inches [TWENTY INCHES] of counter space.

So, basically it's tiny. It's going to be all about storage. At least I think it's going to be all about storage. Here's my plan:

I think I'm fairly close to scale, but I can't figure out how there can be that much space at the foot of the bed, so that's probably off. Also, by "Hank's room" I mean "the space where Hank's litterbox will be." I got him a fantastic new litterbox and I love it and I will tell you about it asap.

Don't worry, you'll get the play by play on things coming together. I only have a deposit down so far. In the immortal words of Magalicious, "It's not a trailer."

Hallelujah.

  2. I think your kitchen is awesome, and I love your plan to wall it in over by the refrigerator. A nice butcher block island on wheels would be great there. You know where I always see pretty good ones for not too much $$? Big Lots. Also, of course, Craigslist. Tiny kitchens make me think of "Smitten" Deb; I think it's a worthy comparison. Can I tell you I have a secret longing to have a trendy studio apartment when I can run and cook when I feel like not having chilluns all over me? True story. I would also accept a "Lodge" a la Pioneer Woman. I've said too much. :)

  3. You could buy a sturdy tall table...like a breakfast bar or something that could be counter space when needed. And thank you for blogging. Oh and most importantly (besides the fact it's not a trailer) I think your apartment is super adorable, has tons of character, and screams Amy. I'm jealous. If you saw my house you'd know why! Can't wait to come visit! Eventually.

  4. @Kathy: I really like them, they're pretty and interesting. (-:

@James: I'm both equally excited and terrified. Big Lots is a good idea, I'm also checking out Habitat ReStore just for 1-2 lower cabinets, but we'll see. Of course I'll be on a budget and I'll talk all about my bargain shopping. And I'd take a lodge any day. Any day.

@MMV: I got a table [FREE from my aunt & uncle] so that will help with work space, but I'm really concerned with storage space...time to get creative!
